Lately, I was watching an interview of one of the ex-ministers of our political scene on a local TV channel. It was a very casual kind of interview in the minister’s drawing room and the conversation wandered around her habits, past time and daily routine of life. To the answer of one of the questions of the interviewer, the minister said that she is extremely fond of paintings and she has gathered thousands of paintings all around herself. The painting selection/collection was of course very expensive and the minister mentioned that the minimum cost of her collection was around half a lakh rupees. I know this is a very minor thing and may seem irrelevant to most of the people but as soon as the minister uttered these words (i-e her paintings love) I felt a feeling of mere disgust in my heart for her and immediately switched the channel.
I started to think what benefit this minister did to us (the common people) when she was in power, she did nothing just like her contemporaries instead of looting people’s money through the damn taxes, foolish expenses and uncontrollable ‘mehngai’. I know I have no right to comment on her personal wealth and the means by which she obtained that wealth but the main thing over here is that I have no respectful feeling in my heart for the politicians of my age (except one or two) and that’s why the hatred in my heart for all our politicians rise like anything when I see the lavish lives they are spending in their many palaces and at the same time a common man is starving for basic necessities of life. A common man earning an average salary can’t sleep comfortably in his half broken bed because of the uncertainties of the expenses of the next day, a common man in our country can’t imagine in his whole life of affording a leisure and paintings…Paintings are something next to impossible for common masses but it is just a ‘fad’ for our honorable politicians :( Long Live Pakistan…
